AT and PCT Thru Hikes

I kept a journal while I hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2017 and most of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019. Then, I typed up my entries and posted them here.

Appalachian Trail Highlights

Katahdin

As a true novice, this hike was a great indicator that I did not understand what I was in for.

When quitting sounded really good

Even though the start of this trail was so rough, it was my slow pace and subsequent winter temps months later that just about broke me.

Dad on the AT

My dad visited my friend and I on trail and it was pretty nice.

Mom on the AT

My mom and good friend hung out over Thanksgiving. (I would go on to hike much of the PCT with this visiting friend two years later.)

Late SOBO Bubble

When you find yourself thruhiking in January which, to say the least, is uncomfortable, you do not expect to run into a group of others doing the same.

The Bitter-Sweet End

Finishing a thru hike is good. I cried a little and smiled a lot.
